Rhythm Mantis Studio offers the following services:
Rhythm Mantis Studio is a satellite studio located just west of Charlottesville, VA. The studio was built for professional use in the early 1980′s, complete with wired walls and substantial sound insulation. It has been in and out of use by several different artists since that time. Prior to my work reviving the studio over the past few years, its last boost of action was an album Lauren Hoffman recorded here called From The Blue House.
I appreciate surprises in sound. I enjoy creating environments for songs to exist in, and then having those environments feed back into the performance of a song. Musicians looking to take chances with their music get along best here. I’ve found small bands or solo artist formats particularly conducive to this type of recording. I’ll work with you on rates but in general my goal is to keep recording affordable. And to keep the process of recording fresh, expansive, hopeful.
I track and mix digitally, involving analog outboard gear throughout the process. Channels, preamps, conversion, and outboard are all high quality – RME, Langevin, AEA, Empirical Labs, Toft, and Universal Audio preamps and converters. Mic collection includes Coles, BeyerDynamic, AKG, Shure, Sennheiser, Rode, and Neumann. Dynaudio and NS10 monitors. Korg Stage Echo tape delay. Fender Rhodes, Farfisa Matador, Nord Electro 73. Numerous stomp boxes (original Sans Amp, Big Muff, etc) and some funky instruments.
